DEMOCRACY DAY: ANAMBRA POLICE INITIATES WALK FOR SAFETY, CAMPAIGNS AGAINST KIDNAPPING AND VIOLENT CRIMES
In a bold move to promote peace and curb rising security challenges, the Anambra State Police Command on June 12, 2025, commemorated Democracy Day with a Walk for Safety and a community-led Campaign Against Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes across the state.

The walk, which was supported by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), was launched to reinforce the importance of community policing and strengthen the synergy between law enforcement and the people.

Starting from the Area Command in Nnewi, the peaceful walk passed through key locations including Nkwo Triangle, Nwafor Orizu Roundabout, First Bank Junction, and concluded at Nnobi Junction. The event was marked by strong public participation and enthusiastic engagement from community members and leaders.

Speaking during the exercise, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, emphasized that the initiative was not just a march, but a message.

“This walk is about togetherness. We are leveraging the support of our communities through the PCRC platform to promote peace, reduce violent crimes, and encourage citizens to work with the police in keeping Anambra safe,” Ikenga stated.

The walk focused on raising awareness about the dangers of kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. It also promoted non-violence, civic responsibility, and stronger community-police relations.

The initiative aims to build trust between security operatives and residents, foster a collective sense of responsibility, and create a safer and more secure environment across Anambra State.

As Nigeria marks another year of democracy, Anambra’s proactive approach sends a clear message: safety is a shared responsibility, and peace thrives where unity exists.
