Owerri Road Blocked by Truck Drivers Demanding Governor’s Attention, Quickly Resolved by SASA and Artma Teams………..
Today, Owerri Road in Anambra State became the scene of a tense standoff as truck drivers blocked the major thoroughfare, protesting until the state governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, addressed their concerns. The drivers, citing ongoing issues that have disrupted their work and mobility in the area, refused to allow vehicles to pass, leaving hundreds stranded.
The blockade began early this morning, around 7 a.m., with the truck drivers vowing to keep the road closed until Governor Soludo personally intervened to address their grievances. The situation quickly escalated, drawing the attention of the State Security Agency (SASA), Anambra Road Traffic Management Authority (Artma), and AVG personnel, who arrived on the scene under the directive of SASA Director Solomon Chukwuebuka Onwuemene and Artma Director Chukwuemeka, known locally as “Konti and the Coordinator of Ocha Brigade Enforcement team
The combined efforts of SASA, Artma, Ocha brigade and AVG helped resolve the situation peacefully yet firmly, as officials persuaded the truck drivers to disperse and clear the road. A few vehicles were reportedly damaged in the standoff, but no major injuries were reported. The swift actions of SASA and Artma restored calm, enabling normal traffic flow to resume.
Local residents and drivers, particularly the Keke and bus drivers, expressed relief and gratitude for the prompt response. “We are grateful to Governor Soludo for establishing SASA in Anambra State. Without them, the insecurity and disruptions could have escalated,” said one Keke driver who witnessed the incident.
Pechilly, an investigative journalist, documented the entire event, noting the effectiveness of SASA, Artma, Ocha Brigade, in ensuring the road remained accessible and safe for the people of Anambra. Governor Soludo’s administration has received commendations for its efforts to maintain security and keep the state’s roadways clear.
