One narrowly escapes death as leadership dispute intensifies
Onitsha, in Anambra State A violent clash erupted on Wednesday at the Anambra State Market Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) headquarters over the sharing of the association’s internally generated revenue (IGR), leaving one person narrowly escaping death. The altercation stems from a leadership tussle regarding the management of a 3% welfare fund derived from the IGR.
Chief Emmanuel Obiagwu, Chairman of the Idemili Zone and a victim of the attack, revealed that he was beaten by alleged thugs connected to ASMATA’s President-General, Chief Humphrey Anuna, after questioning the transparency of the IGR distribution. The scuffle occurred shortly after Obiagwu demanded the association’s funds be deposited in an official account rather than Anuna’s personal account.
Chief Obiagwu disclosed that his personal effects, including N135,000, were stolen during the attack, and he has filed reports with the Central Police Station in Onitsha and Zone 13 Police Headquarters.
The ASMATA leadership crisis has continued to escalate, with Obiagwu and other members appealing to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for intervention. They accuse Chief Anuna of mismanaging millions in IGR funds, which Anuna denies, asserting that his leadership has boosted revenue and improved market administration.
As tensions rise, traders fear that the conflict may soon spiral out of control if left unchecked. And if Mr governor over looked it, blood might split.
My question?
Does ASMATA PG have the right to sack a governors appointee and replace them with another then inaugurated them immediately without the approval of the governor? If yes please comment in the comment section thanks.
