Prominent stakeholders from Anambra Central Senatorial Zone have come together to endorse retired banker and successful hotelier, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, as their favored candidate for the 2025 governorship election. Ozigbo, who was the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2021, is currently a member of the Labour Party (LP), which has caused concern for the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Ozigbo’s recent comments criticizing Soludo’s handling of the state’s affairs have sparked a debate between the two candidates. The stakeholders who endorsed Ozigbo spoke highly of his leadership qualities and expressed confidence that he would run the best government in the history of Anambra State.
Prominent figures, such as Prof Chinyere Okunna, Peter Obi’s former Chief of Staff and current Deputy Vice Chancellor of Paul’s University, praised Ozigbo’s character, describing him as a compassionate and intelligent leader. Hon. George Ozodinobi, the Minority Whip of the 8th Assembly and House of Representatives member, pledged to galvanize delegates and voters in his constituency to support Ozigbo. Hon. Prof. Lillian Oby Orogbu, Member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, acknowledged the overwhelming support Ozigbo has received on social media and called for unity among LP members to back him.
Other political leaders from different parties, including Dr. C.C. Okeke of the PDP, also expressed their support for Ozigbo. The endorsement event was attended by various leaders from different communities, showcasing the widespread support for Ozigbo’s candidacy.
In his speech, Ozigbo expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders and vowed to lead the state to greater heights if elected. He emphasized his commitment to zoning and stated that he would hand over to a competent candidate from Anambra Central after his four-year term, following the example set by Governor Alex Otti in Abia State.
Ozigbo’s track record of excellence and his promise to transform Anambra State within four years resonated with the stakeholders who are eager for positive change. With their enthusiastic endorsement, Ozigbo’s campaign is set to gain momentum as the 2025 governorship election approaches.
