Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has taken a significant step towards ensuring a smooth and successful Local Government (LG) Elections in the state. In a move aimed at guaranteeing transparency and credibility in the electoral process, the governor has sent the names of the board members of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to the House of Assembly for confirmation.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Somtochukwu Nkemakonam Udeze, read out the governor’s letter during a session, formally requesting the consideration and confirmation of the board members. The letter, which has sparked excitement among residents, was then referred to the Screening Committee headed by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon. Chukwuma Pius Okoye, for further deliberations.
The letter from Governor Soludo included the names of the board members, which are set to play a crucial role in the LG Elections. Magistrate Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe has been nominated as the Chairman of the ANSIEC board, a decision that has been met with widespread approval due to her impeccable track record in the judiciary. It is believed that her wealth of experience will ensure that the LG Elections are conducted in a fair and unbiased manner.
The other board members listed in the governor’s letter are Barr. Osita Igbokwe, Mr. Chinedu Anthony, and Mrs. Ifeyinwa Umeh, alongside two other individuals who are yet to be named. Each member brings a unique set of skills and expertise to the table, and their combined efforts are expected to contribute to a transparent and efficient electoral process.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly expressed his confidence in the Screening Committee, urging them to expedite their deliberations and provide their report to the House on the next adjourned date.
