*Abuja, Nigeria –* Senate President Godswill Akpabio has firmly denied allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who has accused him of conspiring to orchestrate her assassination. The claims, which surfaced on April 2, 2025, have ignited a firestorm of controversy within the political landscape as Akpabio’s office responded vigorously to the accusations.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio emphasized a fundamental legal principle: “Whoever alleges must prove. That is simple. That is trite in law. The principle of law is that whoever alleges must prove.” Eyiboh’s comments suggest that the Senate President intends to allow the law to take its course while dismissing the serious allegations as unfounded.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, currently suspended from the Senate due to alleged misconduct, claimed that Akpabio conspired with Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello to plan her elimination. She alleged that the conspirators met to orchestrate a scheme that would mislead authorities into believing that a potential attack on her would be executed by local residents in Okehi, rather than being traced back to Abuja.
Furthermore, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that Akpabio had initially pressured Governor Ododo to initiate a recall process against her but was informed that such an action would be unlikely due to her perceived strong support among constituents. The senator claimed to have alerted security agencies about the alleged plot against her, thereby escalating the seriousness of the accusations.
At a press conference addressing the unfolding controversy, Eyiboh was asked if Akpabio would pursue legal action against Akpoti-Uduaghan. He responded by highlighting that the Senate President remains focused on his legislative responsibilities and national development. “The SP is assiduously working together with his colleagues Senators to collaborate and synergize with the executive to give Nigeria renewed hope. He is not going to come down and begin to get distracted,” Eyiboh asserted, reinforcing Akpabio’s commitment to governance amidst the allegations.
The unfolding situation has sparked intense debate and speculation in political circles, with observers closely monitoring for any further developments. Amidst personal accusations, Akpabio continues to prioritize his legislative duties while the political atmosphere grows increasingly charged. The implications of these allegations stretch beyond personal rivalries and may influence political alliances and public perception as the nation approaches upcoming elections.
As this story develops, the public awaits clarity on the accusations and the responses from both Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan, which may very well shape the political narrative in Nigeria in the weeks to come.
