In a coordinated offensive operation, a Joint Security Team comprising the Police, Military, Anambra State vigilante groups and other security agencies neutralized five members of a suspected armed secessionist gang in Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State. The operation, conducted on January 14, 2025, at around 12:30 p.m., was carried out on Umugem Road, where the group had established a criminal camp.
During the operation, security forces razed the gang’s hideout and recovered several dangerous items, including four undetonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, a 75-volt battery, and other incriminating materials. Several gang members managed to escape, reportedly with gunshot wounds, prompting ongoing manhunt efforts in the area.
The success of the operation has been attributed to effective collaboration and coordination among the various security agencies involved. The dismantling of the camp and recovery of weapons represents a significant blow to the activities of armed groups in the region.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, commended the security forces for their efforts and called on residents to assist in reclaiming the area from criminal elements. “We urge the people to cooperate with security agencies in ensuring that these criminals are denied the space to create tension in the state,” he stated.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, further assured the public that additional updates would be provided as the operation progresses.
The operation in Ufuma is part of a broader strategy by security agencies to curb criminal activities and restore peace across Anambra State. Residents have been urged to report suspicious activities promptly to aid the ongoing offensive against armed groups.
The operation marks a critical step toward ensuring the safety and security of communities in the state, as authorities remain steadfast in their commitment to maintaining law and order.
