A joint security team comprising operatives of the Anambra State Police Command and the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against crime with the arrest of a notorious kidnapper and armed robber in Ihiala. The suspect, identified as Pablo Mamu, a 38-year-old man from Ughelli, Delta State, was apprehended in the early hours of December 23, 2024, following actionable intelligence provided by vigilant members of the public.
During the operation, the security team recovered a cache of incriminating items, including:
• One OFN rifle
• One locally made pistol
• One live 9mm ammunition
• Eight live cartridges
• A black Lexus 330 Jeep with mismatched registration plates: Abuja ABJ 159 LC and Enugu JRV 928 SX
The arrest was made at the suspect’s hideout, where a thorough search led to the discovery of the weapons and the vehicle, both of which are believed to have been used in previous criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, commended the synergy between the police and AVG operatives, as well as the courage and vigilance of the public in providing credible intelligence. He stressed that this collaboration is crucial in maintaining safety and security, particularly during the festive season when criminal activities often escalate.
CP Itam also reiterated the importance of community engagement in policing efforts, encouraging residents to continue providing actionable information to security agencies. He assured the public that the police would remain committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, echoed the Commissioner’s sentiments, emphasizing that such successes reflect the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between security forces and community stakeholders.
The suspect, Pablo Mamu, is currently in custody and will be prosecuted according to the law. Investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about his criminal network and accomplices.
