President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, reiterated his commitment to making Nigeria self-sufficient in food production before the end of his tenure. The President made this declaration during the groundbreaking ceremony of the 84km Bida-Minna Road construction in Niger State.
Represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, President Tinubu promised to continue partnering with states that prioritise development for their people. He emphasised the importance of harmonious relationships between the federal government and state governments for overall growth.
President Tinubu expressed his belief that Nigeria has the potential to become self-reliant in food production. He stated, “Nigeria will be self-sufficient in food production during my administration.” The President also highlighted the broader benefits of road construction in terms of saving lives and driving economic development.
The President commended the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, the first-class traditional ruler and chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, for his role in maintaining peace within his domain. President Tinubu, who holds the traditional title of Jagaba Borgu, emphasised his commitment to supporting development initiatives in Niger State.
Governor Umaru Bago, in his remarks, expressed his satisfaction with the fulfilment of the promise to construct the Bida-Minna Road. He emphasised the economic significance of the project and its alignment with the New Niger Agenda, which aims to enhance infrastructure and socio-economic development in the state.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks a significant shift from the past, where development promises often remained unfulfilled. Governor Bago expressed the state’s determination to create world-class road infrastructure that will serve as a benchmark for development in Nigeria.
The commitment of President Tinubu and Governor Bago to prioritise infrastructure development, particularly in the road sector, is expected to contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of Niger State. Achieving self-sufficiency in food production will not only enhance food security but also stimulate agricultural productivity and economic stability across the country.
As Nigeria continues on its path towards progress, the collaboration between the federal government and state governments will play a vital role in realising the nation’s development goals and improving the livelihoods of the Nigerian people.
