Kontagora in Niger State, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shafi’u Usman Bawa, has reportedly died by suicide in Kontagora town, Niger State.
According to reports confirmed by a police signal, the incident occurred on Saturday when the officer allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling.
The officer’s father, Mr. Usman Bawa, a resident of the Rigasa area in Kontagora, reported the tragic event to the police authorities. The deceased’s body was transported to the General Hospital Kontagora, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.

Following confirmation, the remains were released to the family and buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
The Niger State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have assured the public that further information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
The incident has sparked concerns over mental health awareness and support within the police force. Colleagues and residents have expressed shock and sorrow over the officer’s untimely passing.
