A police-led joint operation is underway in Anambra State to rescue two Catholic nuns allegedly kidnapped along Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area. The nuns were reportedly abducted in the evening of January 7, 2025, while returning from a vocational service meeting in Ogboji.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, visited the scene of the incident for a preliminary assessment. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, investigators are already following promising leads to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the safe return of the victims.
“The Command is committed to the swift rescue of the victims and the arrest of those responsible. We are working collaboratively with other security agencies to bring this case to a successful conclusion,” said CP Itam during the visit.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, assuring that further updates will be communicated as investigations progress.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about security along the Ufuma Road axis, prompting calls for intensified measures to protect residents and travelers in the region.
For now, the police and other security forces are focused on achieving a breakthrough in what has become a critical test of their operational capabilities.
