In a significant breakthrough, Anambra State Police Operatives successfully intercepted a member of a notorious gun-running syndicate today, recovering seven brand new Jojef magnum pump action guns. The arrest was made in Onitsha at approximately 11:30 am on May 23, 2024.
This accomplishment can be attributed to the strategic intelligence and tactical-led Policing strategy implemented by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam. The police force had been actively gathering information about planned attacks by unlawful groups and secessionists, particularly in relation to the impending illegal sit-at-home order on May 30, 2024.
Operatives executed a well-planned ambush at Creek Road in Onitsha, precisely at the identified location, leading to the apprehension of the gang member. Upon realizing the presence of the police, the suspect swiftly abandoned a concealed bag containing the brand new and fully functional Jojef magnum pump action guns, fleeing the scene.
CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has ordered an immediate manhunt for the notorious gun runner and the rest of his gang, emphasizing the importance of ongoing support and provision of security information by the residents of Anambra State. The police will continue to act upon the information received, diligently working to thwart the criminal intentions of non-state actors within the state.
This significant development was communicated to the press by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Command. The authorities in Awka have commended the efforts of the police force in successfully intercepting this dangerous arsenal and remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the state‘s residents.
