Following enhanced security measures introduced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, to curb rising incidents of robbery along Club Road, Awka — popularly known as Abakiliki Street — Police Operatives have successfully arrested two suspects in connection with recent attacks in the area.
The suspects, identified as Chibuike Ozoekwem (22) and Favour Patrick (19), were apprehended in the early hours of March 18, 2025, in an uncompleted building on Onwurah Street, Awka.
During the operation, officers attached to the Special Anti-Cult Unit in Enugwu Ukwu recovered a pump-action gun, 16 expended cartridges, a battle axe, and two suspected stolen phones.

Subsequently, one of the recovered phones was identified by a victim who reported being robbed at gunpoint by four armed men along Club Road on March 13, 2025.
The Police have expanded their investigation to track down other gang members involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Command, confirmed that all suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police has reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Anambra residents, warning criminal elements that they will face the full weight of the law.
