In a vibrant display of community support and collective hope for progress, Chief Hon. Tony Nwora Nweze, the aspiring Chairman of Onitsha Local Government, officially flagged off his campaign in Ward 15 of Onitsha North. The event, held in Woliwo, saw a significant turnout from residents who rallied in support of the candidate’s vision for security and development in the area.
During his address, Chief Nwoeze emphasised the pressing issue of insecurity plaguing Onitsha North and laid out comprehensive strategies to restore peace and safety. He assured the community that his administration would prioritize initiatives aimed at tackling crime, including the installation of streetlights to illuminate dark areas and deter criminal activities.
“I promise to restore security and peace in Onitsha North. Our roads will be fixed, and streetlights will be installed to ensure that our neighborhood are safe,” Nwora Nwoeze declared, resonating with the concerns of local residents. He expressed gratitude to the community for coming out in droves to support his campaign, reinforcing the importance of collective action in achieving shared goals.
Stakeholders in attendance voiced their concerns regarding infrastructure needs, particularly the poor state of roads in Ward 15. Sir Okwu Madu Akwu, a representative of Onitsha North Local Government, and Josephine Aniogbodo, a prominent member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), urged immediate action to address these issues.
Mr. Ezenbe Chris, another APGA stakeholder in Ward 15, stressed the urgent need for functional streetlights to combat rising crime rates that thrive in the darkness. “We implore the state government to take immediate action to restore our streetlights. Our safety depends on it,” he stated earnestly.
Adding to the momentum, Hon. Dignity Eme Chinedu Ogboso, a former party official, pledged that the party would secure a victorious outcome, asserting, “It will be 17 out of 17 for our party in the elections.”
The event concluded with the ceremonial handover of the campaign flag to the Ward 15 Counselor, Hon. Nkiru Vivian Okagbue, marking the beginning of a concerted effort to enhance the quality of life in Onitsha North through dedicated service and community involvement.
With the ambitious plans set forth during this flag-off, Onitsha North is poised for meaningful developments in security, infrastructure, and overall community welfare, as residents unite in their aspirations for a brighter future.
