The Ocha Brigade has continued its remarkable effort to ensure a clean and healthy environment in Onitsha, Anambra State, through a comprehensive drainage desilting exercise. The team has been at the forefront of environmental sanitation, reaffirming their reputation as key contributors to the state’s beautification and public health.
The ongoing desilting exercise covers key areas known for poor drainage and unsanitary conditions, including Upper Iweka Lagos Park, Peace Park, River Jos Park, Onitsha South Park, and surrounding environs. The initiative is aimed at improving water flow and reducing health risks posed by blocked drainages.

One of the highlights of the exercise was the discovery of a house in Onitsha GRA causing a public health hazard. According to eyewitness reports, a resident had blocked a drainage channel, leading to stagnant water and a hazardous living environment.

In response, the Ocha Brigade promptly issued a 42-hour notice to the property owner to clear the blockage or face legal consequences. This decisive action underscores the team’s commitment to enforcing environmental regulations and ensuring public safety.
Residents have lauded the Ocha Brigade’s tireless efforts, noting that their work goes beyond routine sanitation. “They are not just cleaning the state; they are the beautification and health backbone of Anambra,” one resident remarked.
