As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Anniversary, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has expressed concerns about the nation’s ongoing economic hardships. In his message to the people, Udeze highlighted that the current challenges facing the country do not reflect the vision and aspirations of Nigeria’s founding fathers, nor are they in alignment with the will of God. He emphasised that these difficulties are surmountable if both leaders and citizens adopt a positive approach and the right mindset.
Paying tribute to Nigeria’s early nationalists and elder statesmen, Udeze praised their selfless service and sacrifices, which laid the foundation for the country’s growth and development. He urged Nigerians to uphold the legacies of these visionaries to ensure their efforts are not in vain and to sustain the vision of a prosperous and united nation.
The Speaker called for collective responsibility in the pursuit of peace, unity, and national development, expressing optimism that Nigeria can once again become a great and prosperous nation. He encouraged political and religious leaders, as well as ordinary citizens, to seek divine intervention through prayer for the revival of the country.
Udeze further commended leaders who have continued to utilise their positions to enhance the well-being of the masses, while praying for an end to the corrupt practices and vices that have hindered Nigeria’s progress. He reaffirmed his belief that Nigeria has the potential to reclaim its status as a thriving and secure nation with the right leadership and commitment from all citizens.
