The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade conducted a massive demolition operation today, targeting illegal structures and encroachments along several key areas. The operation focused on Owerri Road (both left and right sides), Old Trackers Park Road, Tanzan Nkpor, and Tanzan Owerri Road.
The exercise, which lasted several hours, was aimed at restoring order and ensuring compliance with urban and environmental regulations. The OCHA Brigade, known for its firm stance on illegal developments and environmental sanitation, carried out the demolition as part of its ongoing mission to maintain a clean and organized environment in Anambra State.

Residents and business operators in the affected areas had previously been warned to vacate and remove unauthorized structures. Despite the prior notices, many structures remained, leading to their demolition.

Eyewitnesses reported the use of heavy-duty equipment as the Brigade cleared shanties, makeshift shops, and other illegal structures that obstructed public spaces and roadways.
The OCHA Brigade emphasized the importance of maintaining environmental standards and adhering to state regulations. “Our mandate is to ensure that public spaces are kept clean, safe, and accessible. This demolition exercise is part of our ongoing efforts to prevent illegal street trading, protect public infrastructure, and maintain environmental cleanliness,” the official stated.
The Brigade also used the opportunity to sensitize residents on the importance of following urban planning rules and avoiding future violations. “We are not just enforcing the law; we are educating the public. Compliance with these regulations benefits everyone in the long run,” the official added.
Some affected residents expressed mixed reactions. While a few lamented the loss of their businesses and structures, others acknowledged the need for order and environmental sanitation in the community.
The OCHA Brigade has reiterated its commitment to upholding environmental and urban planning regulations, urging residents and business operators to comply with the state’s directives to avoid future enforcement actions.
This demolition exercise serves as a reminder that the government remains resolute in its efforts to maintain a clean and orderly environment for the benefit of all citizens.
