In a decisive operation, the Joint Security Team comprising officers from the Oko Divisional Police Headquarters and Amaokpala Vigilante Group (AVG) raided a criminal hideout at Umudike Village, Amaokpala, in Orumba North Local Government Area, on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Acting on intelligence, the team struck the den around 10:30 p.m., disrupting criminal activities in the area.
During the raid, the security operatives recovered a significant quantity of substances suspected to be hard drugs, two mobile phones, and cash totaling ₦73,150, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
On sighting the team, the suspected criminals fled into nearby bushes, abandoning their illicit wares and belongings. The operatives swiftly destroyed the camp to prevent its reuse and have intensified efforts to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Police Command, commended the team’s swift action and reiterated the state’s commitment to tackling criminality. “We will not allow these criminals to regroup or find safe haven anywhere in the state,” he said in a statement.
Residents of Amaokpala have applauded the operation, expressing hope that such proactive measures will continue to ensure safety and security in the community. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
