This initiative, aimed at enhancing security in educational institutions across the state, is designed to address rising security threats and foster a safe learning environment for students and educators.
The event took place on Wednesday, and the training is set to conclude on Thursday, October 31, 2024. AIG Godwin Ndidi Aghaulor, representing the IGP, emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding schools. “Our presence here today shows our collective will to support the Nigeria Police Force in promoting the Federal Government’s agenda for prioritising school protection across the nation,” he stated.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Aghaulor commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for his unwavering commitment to enhancing educational security. “As we work together in addressing the challenges facing our educational institutions, we must remember that the safety and security of our students are paramount. By fostering collaboration between security agencies and host communities, we can effectively mitigate security threats,” he added.
Governor Soludo, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, praised the IGP for selecting Anambra as the first state for this vital training program. He reiterated that the initiative aligns with his administration’s vision for providing quality education and secure learning environments in Anambra State.
Additionally, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, highlighted that the establishment of the Schools Protection Squad would bolster the community’s confidence in law enforcement and protect lives and property. He urged community leaders, school principals, and relevant stakeholders to support the initiative for a conducive school environment.
The event featured a panel discussion led by Prof. Chigozie Nwafor from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, emphasising the theme: “Strengthening Security Resilience and Integration of Host Communities in the Protection of Education.” The discussion was attended by traditional rulers, representatives from sister security agencies, civil society organisations, and the media, marking a unified front in the push for safer educational institutions.
As the training unfolds over the next two days, stakeholders are optimistic that the SPS will significantly enhance security measures in schools, promoting a peaceful learning atmosphere throughout Anambra State and beyond.
