Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a directive mandating all shops across the state to open every Monday. The Governor made the announcement during an inspection tour of major markets, where he noticed that several shops were still under lock and key. Soludo emphasised the importance of keeping businesses open at the start of the week, highlighting the detrimental impact the closures have on the state’s economy and citizens’ personal incomes.
Speaking to market leaders and traders, Governor Soludo assured them that the state government will strengthen security in the markets to ensure traders feel safe to operate. He expressed concern that the persistent closure of markets on Mondays was hurting economic activities and personal finances, adding that the government could no longer tolerate such a trend. He called on all traders to comply with the new directive for the greater good of the state.
