Under the determined leadership of Governor Prof. Charles Soludo CFR, a major refurbishment is currently underway at the Igboukwu Museum, aiming to turn it into a top-tier attraction for tourists, scholars, and researchers. With an unwavering commitment to preserving and promoting Anambra’s cultural legacy, Governor Soludo’s vision for the museum aligns perfectly with this year’s International Museum Day theme: “Museums for Education and Research.”
Upon completion, the Igboukwu Museum will become a static repository of artifacts, offering a wealth of resources for research purposes. Additionally, it will serve as a dynamic classroom, where history comes alive, and curiosity flourishes. This transformation is expected to draw both local and international tourists, researchers, and scholars to the state.
The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, expressed his excitement about the refurbishment of the Igboukwu Museum. In his statement, he emphasized that Anambra boasts a rich cultural heritage, and the museum serves as a repository of their stories, preserving the importance of safeguarding cultural treasures for future generations. The museum showcases the artistic talents and craftsmanship of their ancestors, offering a glimpse into the lives they lived.
Commissioner Onyenji extended his gratitude to Governor Soludo for his dedication and approval of the museum’s upgrade. He also acknowledged the Governor’s support of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition held in October 2023, during which he patronized exhibitors with substantial financial contributions. This move aimed to encourage and promote the visual and creative arts industry among the citizens.
The Commissioner further stated his intention to continue paying official visits to privately owned museums across Anambra State. He commended individuals like the Obi of Onitsha for their interest and promotion of museums, recognizing their invaluable contributions to preserving the state’s cultural heritage.
However, Commissioner Onyenji urged the public to seize this opportunity and embark on a personal journey of discovery. By exploring these cultural gems, individuals can immerse themselves in the shared narrative of Anambra and uncover the splendor of their heritage. With the revitalization of the Igboukwu Museum, Governor Soludo’s commitment to Anambra’s cultural legacy will continue to shine brightly.
