A potential tragedy was averted in Ukwulu on the evening of April 12, 2025, following a swift response by Police Operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, to a reported shooting incident stemming from a family dispute.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident, which caused brief panic in the area, was quickly contained. Officers arrived promptly at the scene, rescued a gunshot victim, and prevented the situation from escalating into a more serious confrontation.
During the operation, the police recovered one AK-47 rifle, one pistol, and six rounds of live ammunition, which were allegedly used in the altercation. Two suspects were apprehended on-site and are currently undergoing police interrogation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was the result of a longstanding disagreement between two brothers. One of the siblings reportedly sought the assistance of another individual, leading to the violent encounter that left one injured.
The injured victim has been taken to a medical facility where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough and comprehensive investigation. Authorities have promised to release further updates as the investigation progresses.
SP Ikenga reassured the public of the command’s commitment to swift justice and continued efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.
