Awka, Anambra State – In a bid to enhance security and foster stronger cooperation with strategic stakeholders, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has paid a familiarization visit to the Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu, and his management team.

The visit, which took place at the university’s main campus, aimed to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the academic community while addressing security challenges within the university environment.
As part of his commitment to ensuring the safety of students, faculty, and residents of the Ifite and Amansea axis, CP Orutugu proposed the construction of a police post on a parcel of land donated by the university’s management. The facility is expected to bolster security efforts, provide quicker response to emergencies, and curb criminal activities in and around the university area.

The CP was accompanied by DCP Moses Gana, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, and ACP James Ihiabe, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations. He noted that the initiative is crucial, given the history of security incidents in the school’s vicinity.

2. Building community trust and confidence in law enforcement.
3. Leveraging university resources and expertise to strengthen security operations.
4. Developing joint initiatives to address security concerns.
