In a remarkable display of commitment to community engagement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has opened up more channels of communication as he addresses the Anambra Central Senatorial Traditional Rulers Forum. This platform provides an opportunity for the police and security agencies to collaborate with various stakeholders in enforcing the law and maintaining public order and safety in the state. The meeting took place today at the Awka South Local Government Headquarters in Awka.
Recognizing the vital role played by traditional rulers as custodians of cultural heritage, CP Itam emphasized their importance as the first level of law enforcers, particularly when it comes to native and customary laws. By properly enforcing these laws, certain societal issues can be mitigated, reducing the likelihood of serious criminal behavior among the youth.
During the address, the Commissioner called for honest and patriotic involvement from all participants, urging them to set aside their differences and work collectively in condemning any actions that threaten national peace. It is through this united front that lasting peace can be achieved.
Furthermore, CP Itam sought the cooperation of the traditional rulers in opening more channels of communication with their subjects. This would enable them to address issues that divide and create tension within the community. By fostering dialogue and understanding, solutions can be found that promote harmony and unity.
In response to the Commissioner’s address, HRH Igwe O.D. Ezeani Ugonabo Neni, the Chairman of the Forum, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to engage with the police command. He assured the Commissioner of the Forum’s maximum support and cooperation, emphasizing their commitment to working hand-in-hand with the police and other security agencies.
The meeting also provided a platform for the traditional rulers to voice their concerns and suggestions. CP Itam acknowledged these issues and proposed a more elaborate deliberation involving all relevant stakeholders and government agencies in the future. This inclusive approach ensures that diverse perspectives are taken into account when formulating strategies for maintaining peace and security.
Among the traditional rulers present to welcome CP Itam were HRM Igwe Charles C. Agbala of Igwe Uke, HRM Igwe S.I. Okafor Ogene Okpuno JP, HRM Joel M. Ezebuilo Ezeudo Umuawulu, HRM Igwe Dr. Emeka Ilouno Eze dunu of Ifitedunu, and HRM Igwe AC Ezebuilo of Igwe Amanuke, among others.
The Anambra State Police Command, through CP Itam’s proactive approach to community engagement, demonstrates its commitment to fostering positive relationships and collaboration with various stakeholders. By working together, the police and the community can address the root causes of conflicts, promote peace, and ensure the overall safety and well-being of all residents.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of Anambra State Police Command, sent out this information to all news outlets, ensuring that the public remains well-informed about the ongoing efforts to build stronger communities through dialogue and cooperation.
As the dialogue continues, it is hoped that the engagement between the police command and the traditional rulers will serve as a foundation for future collaborations, leading to a safer and more harmonious Anambra State.
