In a bid to maintain public peace and national unity, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has called on the people of Anambra State to dissociate themselves from any activities that may disrupt the peace during the Democracy Day celebration on June 12th, 2024.
Following a critical threat analysis conducted by the Command, it has come to light that certain individuals and groups are planning to stage a protest that could potentially halt all commercial activities and cause traffic congestion within the state. CP Itam has assured the public that the police will fulfill their mandate of safeguarding the fundamental human rights of all citizens, especially the rights to freedom of movement and dignity.
While acknowledging the right to peaceful advocacy, the Command emphasizes the importance of adhering to existing laws governing such activities. To ensure a safe and peaceful environment, police operatives have been deployed to strategic areas across the state. Their primary responsibility will be to protect lives and property, maintain smooth traffic flow, and prevent any acts that may threaten public peace.
CP Itam took the opportunity to extend his wishes for a Happy Democracy Day celebration to all Ndi Anambra. He commended their cooperation and commitment to peace, urging them to remain law-abiding and vigilant. The Commissioner also appealed for continued partnership and support from the public in collaboration with the police and other security agencies to combat all forms of criminality and ensure public safety in the state.
For any security-related concerns or requests for assistance, the public is encouraged to contact the police at 07039194332 for a prompt response. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, provided this information to newsmen in Awka.
As Democracy Day approaches, the Commissioner of Police’s call for unity and adherence to the law serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and harmony within our society. Let us join hands together to celebrate this historic day responsibly and peacefully, ensuring the progress and prosperity of our beloved Anambra State.
