Okija, Anambra State: In a tragic and shocking incident, Bar. Peter Awah, the Secretary of the Okija Development Union, was brutally murdered last night at Eke Umudioka, Okija. The murder occurred on May 19, 2024, at approximately 11:00 pm. Preliminary reports indicate that the assailants, who were operating on motorbikes, ambushed Awah as he was about to alight from his vehicle.
Eyewitnesses have reported that the attackers shot Awah multiple times, leaving him no chance to seek safety. These eyewitness accounts are already proving valuable to the ongoing investigation led by the Command Operatives.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, as well as to the Nigerian Bar Association, the people of Okija, and the entire state of Anambra. In a decisive move to ensure justice is served, CP Itam has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide section of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for a comprehensive probe.
The news was disseminated to the public through SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Command. The police have assured the public that every effort will be made to apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.
As the investigation progresses, the community remains on edge, mourning the loss of a prominent member and seeking answers to this senseless act of violence. The authorities have called on anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
