Anambra State, once renowned as a hub of peace and economic growth in the Southeast, is now grappling with a severe insecurity crisis. Reports of gun violence, kidnappings, and other criminal activities have surged, leaving residents and visitors in fear. This troubling trend has cast a shadow over the achievements of the previous administration under Governor Willie Obiano, who was lauded for his significant strides in restoring security.
Despite commendable progress in infrastructure, road rehabilitation, and education under the current administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the glaring issue of insecurity has left many questioning the government’s priorities. The lives and safety of Ndi Anambra, as residents are fondly called, remain paramount, and citizens are urging the administration to take swift and decisive action to address the situation.
Speaking out on the issue, Pechilly Investigative emphasized the urgency of safeguarding the people. “It would be a thing of shame if the present administration fails to maintain the security that was restored by former Governor Obiano,” the organization stated. “While roads and schools are important, the protection of lives and property is the cornerstone of a better society.”
The insecurity has paralyzed social and economic activities in the state. Many residents now avoid traveling, even during festive seasons, for fear of kidnappings and gun violence. Others have limited their movements, unable to enjoy simple pleasures like social gatherings and community events.
Citizens are calling on the governor to mobilize resources effectively, ensuring that the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), police, and Special Anti touting Squad (SaSa) vehicles are adequately funded and equipped to combat crime. The taxes paid by the hardworking people of Ndi Anambra, they argue, should be sufficient to restore order and bring back the state’s reputation as a beacon of peace and safety.
The insecurity crisis poses a significant challenge to Governor Soludo’s administration, but residents remain hopeful that decisive action will turn the tide. “We are humans, not animals,” a concerned citizen stressed. “Our lives should matter more than anything else.”
The people of Anambra State are calling for immediate intervention to restore the state as a secure home for all. It is a call to action for the government to prioritize the well-being of its citizens and reclaim the legacy of peace that Anambra once enjoyed.
