In a major effort to enhance Anambra State’s environmental health and ensure smoother travel for residents and visitors, the Ministry of Transport’s enforcement team, supported by several security and monitoring agencies, embarked on a road decongestion operation today in Onitsha. The operation, aimed at keeping Anambra’s roads clear and orderly, was conducted in compliance with the governor’s directive and targeted major traffic hotspots in Onitsha and surrounding areas.
The coordinated mission included personnel from the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), Nigerian Navy, Ocha Brigade, Soludo Marshal, DSS, Civil Defense, and the Ministry of Transport’s monitoring team. Together, they tackled congestion along key routes, with a particular focus on the ever-busy Owerri Road. The operation successfully cleared these roads, making them accessible and safe for the people of Ndi Anambra and visitors alike.
The decongestion effort was led by Ocha Brigade Hon. Celestine Anara the Managing Director of Ocha Brigade and Hon. Chiejina Obieze, the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor, alongside officials including Monday Desmond Nwokoye and members of the Ocha Brigade Enforcement Team. In line with State Government directives that all parks must be gated.
Hon. Obieze reiterated that the operation was directly aligned with the governor’s directive, aimed at ensuring all vehicles use designated, government-approved parks.
“We’ve issued multiple public announcements through radio, television, and online platforms, instructing drivers to utilize these approved parks,” stated Hon. Obieze. “This is a clear reminder to everyone to respect the governor’s directive and keep our roads free from illegal parking. This measure is part of our commitment to providing Ndi Anambra a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment.”
This enforcement action serves as a visible reminder of the state’s commitment to creating a more organized and accessible urban environment, benefiting all who live in and travel through Anambra.
