Awka, Anambra State – The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has called on the State Police Command to intensify efforts to re-arrest two suspects who escaped while in custody during an operation to recover evidence linked to the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka.

The two suspects, identified as Ikem and Ocha, were among those arrested for their alleged involvement in the killing of the late Justice Azuka, who represented Onitsha One State Constituency. However, according to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects managed to flee during an attempt to recover the operational vehicles used in their criminal activities.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Rt. Hon. Udeze described the escape as a regrettable development that undermines the commendable efforts of law enforcement in handling the investigation. He stressed that the Anambra State House of Assembly is resolute in ensuring that justice is served.
“The fleeing suspects must be tracked and apprehended at all costs,” the Speaker declared. “I call on the State Commissioner of Police to redouble his efforts and take all necessary measures to ensure their immediate re-arrest. The State Police should declare them wanted and publish their full names, addresses, and photographs to enlist public support in locating them.”
Rt. Hon. Udeze reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to ensuring that Hon. Justice Azuka’s killers face the full weight of the law, emphasizing that his death must not be in vain.
The Speaker’s statement adds to growing public outcry over the escape, with many urging law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in recapturing the suspects. The Anambra State Police Command is yet to provide further details on ongoing efforts to track down the fugitives.
Residents have been encouraged to report any information that could lead to the re-arrest of the escaped suspects, as authorities work to restore public confidence in the justice system.
