Onitsha, Anambra State – The Anambra State Police Command has taken control of the scene of a tragic motor accident that claimed six lives and injured several others. The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. on March 15, 2025, at the Upper Iweka axis in Onitsha.

According to eyewitness reports, the accident happened when a truck lost control and plowed into pedestrians, two tricycles, and a commercial bus carrying passengers. The impact resulted in the immediate loss of six lives, while several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The police intervention aims to restore order in the area and facilitate a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been moved to the morgue, and some of their relatives have been contacted and informed.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, the Anambra State Police Command urged drivers to conduct proper vehicle checks before hitting the road to prevent similar tragedies.
“We sympathize with the families and friends of the deceased and wish the injured a swift recovery,” said SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer in Awka.
The police have assured the public that further updates on the investigation will be provided as they become available.
