In a resounding demonstration of their commitment to maintaining law and order, the Anambra Police Command has successfully thwarted criminal activities with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of dangerous materials. These operations form part of the sustained efforts to combat crime in the state.
On September 22, 2024, a police-led Joint Security Force, acting on reliable intelligence, intercepted a suspect along the pillar-pole area of Aguata, who was carrying three bags of cassava flakes (Garri). Upon thorough inspection, operatives uncovered a significant quantity of gunpowder concealed beneath the edible goods. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect was en route to a known criminal camp, where the groceries were to be consumed and the gunpowder prepared for the manufacture of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Currently in police custody, the suspect is actively cooperating with the authorities to aid in the identification and apprehension of other gang members involved in these illicit activities.
In a separate operation on September 25, 2024, officers from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) responded to credible information and raided a criminal hideout in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area. During this operation, one Nelson Wisdom, a male suspected from Etsako East, Edo State, was arrested, and a locally fabricated pistol along with two live rounds of ammunition was recovered.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, reaffirmed the Police Command’s unwavering resolve to combat criminality in the state. “We remain dedicated to acting on actionable intelligence to continue our onslaught against criminal elements. The safety of our communities is our priority, and we will ensure that all suspects are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law once investigations are concluded,” he declared.
The Anambra Police Command encourages citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to assist in keeping the community safe. As these operations continue, the police are determined to frustrate the evil plans of those seeking to disrupt the peace of Anambra State.
