In an effort to strengthen security in Anambra State, Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has presented his Policing Plan and Model, emphasising the importance of practical intelligence, technology-driven operations, and tactical approaches. The CP addressed Sectional Heads in the Operations Department and directed the establishment of Field Operations Surveillance Centers and Field Operations Retraining Centers within the Area Commands.
One of the key measures suggested by CP Itam is the training of officers in the use of drones for surveillance, as well as refresher courses on weapon handling, musketry, and other monitoring devices. These initiatives aim to effectively combat crime and facilitate prompt investigations when criminal activities occur.
Moreover, the CP emphasised his zero-tolerance policy towards professional misconduct, particularly extortion and street-level corruption. He urged the Officers to maintain strict supervision of personnel in their respective units and reaffirmed that the Command will not tolerate any unprofessional behaviour from police personnel.
Attending the meeting were the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Charge of Intelligence, and the Heads of Tactical Units, including the Commander of Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), the Commander of the Anti-kidnapping/Rapid Respond Squad, and the Commander of Special Anti-Cultism Squad.
With these developments, it is expected that Anambra State will witness an enhanced security apparatus and a more proactive approach towards crime prevention and control.
