Onitsha, Anambra State – The Anambra State Police Command has intercepted a suspect in possession of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol during a routine foot patrol at Upper-Iweka, Onitsha.
The arrest, which took place on February 18, 2025, around 8:00 PM, was carried out by operatives attached to Awada Divisional Headquarters as part of intensified security measures directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD.
The suspect, identified as Orji Chigozie, was apprehended while moving through a high-risk area. Upon searching his bag, officers discovered the concealed firearm.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect may be involved in criminal activities in the area. He has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for further questioning and possible prosecution.
The Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reassured residents of its commitment to ensuring public safety. The police urged citizens to continue providing useful information to aid security efforts in combating crime across the state.
