The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Joshua Simeon, who was attempting to flee with a five-year-old girl, Nkemdilim Jacob, allegedly stolen from her parents in Umuota Village, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the Ogidi Area Command acted on credible intelligence and intercepted the suspect at Nkpor Central Park around 4 p.m. The suspect had already boarded a commercial vehicle and was en route to an unknown destination when he was apprehended.
The rescued child has been placed in police care while authorities work to reunite her with her family. Meanwhile, the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to determine his motives and whether he is linked to a larger child trafficking network.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating child abduction and trafficking while ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in the state.
