In a significant breakthrough, the Anambra State Police Command has apprehended seven suspects linked to cultism and armed robbery. The operation resulted in the recovery of a cut-size double-barrel gun, one tricycle without a registration number, and a quantity of hard drugs. However, the police are still on the lookout for two wanted suspects, including Makuo Nwuso alias Baby.
The arrests were made on the evening of April 3, 2024, at around 10 pm by operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS). While on patrol at Unizik Junction, the police intercepted a tricycle carrying several individuals. When the officers tried to question them, the occupants fled on foot, but one suspect, Chukwuemka Ozoekwe, was apprehended.
Following further investigation, Chukwuemka led the police to the criminals’ hideout, resulting in the arrest of Chidozie Anagor and Chukwuemeka Oyeoka. However, two individuals remain at large. Subsequently, during a raid on their hideout, the operatives arrested Ebuka Okoye, Olisa Obi, Chidubem Nwakwu, and Nwankwo Kosisochukwu.

Interrogation of the suspects revealed that they were members of the Vipers Cult group and were part of a gang that has been causing terror in the Awka metropolis recently. The suspects also confessed that they were planning to rob road users of their mobile phones and personal belongings at the time of their arrest.
In response to the successful operation, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, and acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Fidelis Ogarabe PSC MNIPS, commended the operatives and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against crime in the state. He reassured the people of Anambra that the trust placed in the police and other security agencies would not be taken for granted.
The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigations. The Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of DCP Fidelis Ogarabe, remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state.
