The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency. Azuka, a Labour Party (LP) chieftain who regained his mandate after a court ruling in his favor, was abducted on the night of December 24, 2024, around 9:20 p.m. at Ugwunapampa, Inland Town, Onitsha.
A local resident, speaking under anonymity, expressed concern over the abduction and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the lawmaker. “No contact has been made since his abduction, and the situation is deeply worrying,” the resident stated.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in an official statement. “Anambra Police Command has activated operational plans for the possible rescue of Mr. Justice Azuka and the arrest of his abductors. Preliminary investigations have provided some clues, and we are working tirelessly to ensure his safe return,” Ikenga said.
Azuka’s abduction comes amid heightened concerns about insecurity during the festive season. Residents and political stakeholders are urging authorities to take swift action to prevent further incidents and ensure safety across the state.
Hon. Azuka, a vocal figure in the Labour Party, had recently regained his position after the court nullified the election of his predecessor, Mr. Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His kidnapping has sent shockwaves through the political community in Anambra State.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to resolving the case. Updates on the investigation and rescue efforts will be provided as they unfold. Meanwhile, the authorities appeal to anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid the ongoing operations.
