In a concerted effort to eliminate indiscriminate open defecation across Upper Iweka and the wider Onitsha metropolis, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, known as the Ocha Brigade, has launched a crackdown on offenders. The initiative is focused on maintaining hygiene and fostering a cleaner environment by discouraging road users, business owners, and passers-by from using unapproved public spaces for defecation or urination.
Those apprehended during the recent enforcement campaign were required to perform community service as punishment, including clearing overgrown vegetation and cleaning local waterways. This approach aims not only to discipline but also to educate citizens on the importance of using designated sanitary facilities provided by the government.
The Ocha Brigade’s mission is to enhance the well-being of Anambra’s residents by promoting a clean, green, and healthy environment. The agency urges residents to use approved public sanitation facilities, which align with the government’s vision of a hygienic and prosperous homeland.
