In a continued effort to implement the all-inclusive policing strategy, Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has expanded the channels of engagement in Anambra State. In a security meeting held on 26th June 2024, CP Itam welcomed the State Service Commanders, which included representatives from the Army, Navy, DSS, and other security agencies. Additionally, he had the honor of receiving HRH Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters in Awka.
During a closed-door meeting with the esteemed traditional ruler and the service commanders, CP Itam reiterated his commitment to a policing plan that values input from every sector and individual willing to assist the security agencies in enforcing the law and maintaining public order and safety in the state.
Since assuming the position of Commissioner of Police, CP Itam has been actively advocating for inclusivity in his policing approach. He has addressed officers and personnel across all departments and sections of the command, as well as engaged with various stakeholders in the state. These engagements have included meetings with Catholic priests at the bishop’s conference in Onitsha, the Vigilante group of the state, the Hunters Association, and the Police Community Relation Committee, among others.
The all-inclusive policing plan aims to ensure that the voices and perspectives of all members of the community are heard and considered. By fostering collaborations with different sectors and stakeholders, CP Itam is seeking to create an environment of trust and cooperation, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in Anambra.
The meeting with the Obi of Onitsha and the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council signifies the importance of traditional leadership in the overall security framework of the state. Traditional rulers play a crucial role in maintaining peace and order within their communities and their involvement in the collaborative policing strategy will further strengthen the security architecture of Anambra State.
CP Itam’s commitment to an all-inclusive approach to policing reflects a progressive mindset that recognizes the importance of community engagement and participation in ensuring safety and security. By opening more channels of engagement and advocating for cooperation among different stakeholders, the Anambra State Police Command is paving the way for a safer and more secure environment for all residents of the state.
