CP Itam Warns Criminal Elements in Guise of Celebration, Reiterates Command Commitment to Ensuring Public Safety and Orders
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has issued a stern warning to criminal elements who disguise themselves during the celebration of the Imoka Awka festival. The CP reiterated the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command in enforcing the law and ensuring public safety.
Following several reports received regarding miscreants causing havoc during the festival, especially in Awka, the CP invited the organizers of the cultural event to his office in Anambra State Police Command, Awka. The organizers, comprising the Speaker of Eze Ezu Awka Community, the Palace Secretary of Eze Ezu, the Youth leader, and other stakeholders, were warned against criminal activities during the festival.
Expressing concern that the Command had not been formally informed about the magnitude of the festival, which is set to start on May 28, 204, the CP urged the organizers to cooperate with the police to ensure a hitch-free celebration. He also called on residents, particularly the indigenes of Awka, to be law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious at all times.
In light of the situation, the CP has directed the deployment of officers to intensify confidence-building and crime prevention patrols in identified areas of Awka. The Anambra State Police Command’s contact numbers were also provided for anyone in need of security services.
To ensure prompt response, individuals can call 07039194332 or the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) at 08039334002. Additionally, the “NPF Rescue Me” app is available for download on Android and Apple IOS devices, allowing users to quickly request assistance.
