The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, MNIPS, PhD, on Saturday, 26th April 2025, personally intervened in a land dispute involving the Ogu Clan in Ubarusioye Village, Nando, calling for stakeholder collaboration to resolve the crisis and prevent a breakdown of law and order.

At a meeting held at the State Police Command Headquarters, Awka, CP Orutugu met with the disputing parties and emphasized the critical role of community-driven dialogue and peaceful engagement in addressing land disputes, which he described as sensitive and capable of escalating into broader communal conflicts if not properly handled.
The Police Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to fostering peace through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms and stressed the need for patience and cooperation among the parties. He warned that any further breach of the peace would attract decisive law enforcement actions.
Following the engagement, the parties voluntarily signed an undertaking pledging to maintain peace and refrain from any provocative actions pending the final resolution of the matter by relevant stakeholders.
Present at the meeting were notable community leaders including Mr. Alexander Nwabueze, Chairman of Umunnamoke Kindred; Dr. Chijioke Ifejika, Chairman of Adagbe-Ogu Kindred; and Mr. Ebenezer Chibuzor, representing the Chairman of Ukwuorji Kindred. Also in attendance were the Divisional Police Officer of Otuocha Division and other members of the affected village.
The intervention is part of the Anambra State Police Command’s broader operational strategy, anchored on the recently launched Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping, aimed at strengthening internal security through proactive conflict resolution and inter-agency cooperation.
The Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to maintain public peace and urged all communities in the state to adopt dialogue and lawful processes in addressing disputes.
