The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, has commended the dedication and vigilance of police operatives in their ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety across the state.
This commendation follows two recent successful operations that led to the arrest of armed suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons.

On 22nd March 2025, operatives attached to the Obosi Division, acting on intelligence, arrested one Kosiso Okonkwo during a patrol along the Obosi/Nkpor Road. The suspect was found in possession of a Beretta pistol and later confessed to being a member of the notorious Aye Confraternity cult group.

In a separate operation, police operatives from B Division, supported by Mobile Police officers from the 29 Squadron, intercepted a tricycle with registration number BBG 767 QH at approximately 9:20 PM along the Enugu/Onitsha Expressway, Amansea. The driver, identified as Augustine Okafor, was dressed in Army camouflage trousers.

During interrogation, Okafor failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, prompting the officers to conduct a search. This led to the recovery of:
• One Beretta pistol
• Seven live rounds of ammunition
• ₦15,600 in cash
• Suspected hard drugs
• Charms
In response to these developments, CP Orutugu ordered the immediate transfer of both cases to the Command Tactical Unit for a discreet investigation.

The Commissioner praised the officers involved for their proactive efforts, emphasizing that the command remains committed to maintaining law and order. He assured residents that the Anambra Police Command is increasingly motivated and actively working to ensure public safety.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in their efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
