In commemoration of the 2024 International Youth Day, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has emphasized the importance of the youth in societal development and called on them to shun vices. He also praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his youth empowerment initiatives.
Addressing the youth in Anambra State, Rt. Hon. Udeze highlighted their pivotal role in nation building, describing them as the future of the nation. He urged them to stay away from vices such as lust, idolatry, greed, and violence, emphasizing that hard work, education, vocational and occupational engagements, and skill acquisition would empower them to positively impact themselves and society.
Taking note of Governor Soludo’s proactive measures in repositioning the future of the state’s youth, Udeze commended the governor for his “one youth, two skills program,” which has empowered a staggering 13,500 young individuals. He also acknowledged the numerous other opportunities the governor has provided for youth empowerment.
The Speaker encouraged the youth to discern between virtues and vices, calling on well-meaning citizens to contribute to the betterment of young people in their communities. He praised the State lawmakers for implementing extensive youth employment programs in their respective constituencies.
The International Youth Day, celebrated annually on August 12th, serves as a reminder to recognize the potential of young people and their contributions to society. This year’s theme, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health,” highlights the critical role of young individuals in shaping sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring food security.
As Anambra State joins the global community in celebrating the International Youth Day, the message from Speaker Udeze resonates as a call to action for young people to rise above vices and embrace opportunities for growth and empowerment. With the support of Governor Soludo and other key stakeholders, the youth of Anambra State have the tools and resources to thrive and contribute to the betterment of their communities and the state as a whole.
