The Anambra State Government has confirmed that all recently arrested native doctors, including Akwa Okuko Tiwalu Aki, Eke Hit, Onye-Eze Jesus, and others, remain in its custody as investigations continue.
Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefoh, made this disclosure in an exclusive interview with ABS, addressing growing social media speculation that some of the detainees had been released. He clarified that his office had not issued any statement regarding the names circulating online or any alleged court arraignment dates.
According to Dr. Mefoh, more than 30 native doctors are still under detention, and those against whom substantial evidence is found will face prosecution. He also emphasized that the ongoing crackdown aligns with the new Anambra Homeland Security Law, which prohibits certain traditional charms, including Oke-ite, Awele, Ibobo, and Odeshi. The law also criminalizes those involved in their preparation.

Reaffirming the position of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, Dr. Mefoh stressed that the government is not against traditional worship but is determined to root out criminal elements hiding under cultural practices. He reiterated that the measures aim to create a safer society where illegal activities are not normalized under the guise of tradition.
As the investigations continue, the Anambra State Government has urged the public to disregard misinformation and await official updates.
