Umunze, Anambra State – Barely 24 hours after demolishing buildings used as kidnappers’ dens in Isiagu, Awka South Local Government Area, the newly launched security force in Anambra State, Agụnechemba, also known as Operation Udo Ga-Achị, has dismantled another notorious criminal gang in the state.

On Monday, the security outfit apprehended a gang allegedly specializing in dismantling and stealing electric wires for resale as scrap. The breakthrough operation took place in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area, and targeted two suspected gang members identified as Barron and Chukwudi Orji.
A trending video on social media shows the suspects alongside a bundle of wires they allegedly stole the previous night in Isulo, also in Orumba South. The suspects had reportedly burned off the protective coating on the wires to prepare them for sale when they were tracked down and arrested by Agụnechemba officers.
The video’s voiceover revealed that the suspects had been on the wanted list for their involvement in various criminal activities. While Barron reportedly confessed to the crime, Chukwudi Orji, who hails from Ezira, denied his involvement, claiming he was not part of the gang or the operation.

This latest operation underscores the effectiveness of Agụnechemba in delivering on its mandate to restore law and order in Anambra State. Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has vowed to maintain a zero-tolerance policy for crime, emphasizing that criminals and their accomplices will face severe repercussions.

Following Sunday’s demolition of criminal hideouts in Isiagu, the governor reiterated that any building used for criminal activities would be confiscated and demolished, while offenders would be prosecuted. He also announced a ₦5 million reward for anyone providing actionable information leading to the arrest of criminals.

Residents of Umunze and nearby communities have praised the swift action of the Agụnechemba team, expressing renewed confidence in the state government’s efforts to ensure their safety and security.
