Human rights activist, Comrade Osita Obi, has called on the federal government and security agencies to urgently address the disturbing increase in cases of missing persons in Anambra State. Speaking at a press conference in Awka, Obi decried the growing trend where individuals mysteriously disappear without a trace, while authorities and society seemingly carry on as if nothing has happened.

Obi highlighted three high-profile cases that have remained unresolved, including the disappearances of prominent businessman Mr. Benjamin Ezemma, Anambra House of Assembly member Hon. Justice Azuka, and Mr. Obiora Agbasimalo, a former Labour Party candidate in the 2021 Anambra governorship election.
“I am particularly concerned about the sudden disappearance of Mr. Benjamin Ezemma, also known as Big Ben, who is the Vice Chairman of Dubai Estate. He vanished on November 12, and no trace of him has been found since then,” Obi lamented.

The activist criticized the lack of decisive action by authorities and questioned the effectiveness of national identification systems such as SIM and NIN registrations. “What is the federal government doing? Can’t they use the data from SIM and NIN registrations to track missing persons like Ben? We urge the police, DSS, and other security agencies to swing into action immediately,” he emphasized.

Obi also revealed that some individuals believed to have had dealings with Ezemma have been dragged to court. He urged journalists to keep the issue in the public domain to prevent it from being swept under the carpet.

While commending the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra for their commitment to the case, Obi expressed disappointment with the Anambra State Police Command. “The police have shown glaring incompetence. Anambra should not be a dumping ground for police officers waiting for retirement. If this trend continues, we may have no option but to stage protests,” he warned.
The activist’s passionate plea underscores the urgency of the matter as families and communities continue to live in fear amid the unresolved disappearances. Obi called on the federal government to harness all available technology and intelligence resources to bring justice and closure to the affected families.
