In a major security push aimed at eradicating Cultism ,kidnapping and other violent crimes, the Anambra State Police Command has officially launched Operation Udo-Gachi Zero Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes and cultism. The launch ceremony took place on Monday at the Amawbia Flyover along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka.

Speaking at the event, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, who is spearheading the operation, emphasized the joint effort of various security agencies in restoring peace and safety across the state.
“This operation is a message to Ndi Anambra and residents that we are fully ready, in unity with the Army, Navy, Immigration, FRSC, NSCDC, Correctional Services, and the Anambra Vigilante Group, to stamp out kidnapping and violent crimes from our land,” said CP Orutugu.

He noted that the operation comes after a thorough review of policing strategies, particularly as the Easter period approaches and residents prepare to travel home. “We are using this opportunity to assure the people that Anambra is safe to return to for the festivities and beyond,” he added.

The operation, described as intelligence-driven and proactive, will deploy joint patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance at criminal hotspots. The CP also directed Divisional Police Officers and other security formations to carry out raids on identified flashpoints to dislodge criminal elements.

A Joint Security Information Room has also been established to facilitate public reporting of suspicious activity. Dedicated emergency lines have been provided for rapid response.

In attendance was Hon. Kingsley Ezika, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on Security and Anti-Cultism Matters. He commended the governor and security chiefs for their consistent efforts in reducing insecurity and called on Anambra indigenes to return home and participate in a proposed security town hall meeting.

“It is unacceptable that our ancestral homes burn while our wealthy brothers invest in distant lands,” Ezika stated, urging the diaspora community to contribute towards strengthening security infrastructure in the state.

The launch witnessed the participation of various stakeholders, including representatives of the Anambra Restaurants and Bar Owners Association, media, and community leaders. The collaborative initiative marks a renewed commitment to making Anambra State a safe, secure, and livable homeland for all.
