ONITSHA – The Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has announced the formation of a tripartite committee to investigate the true cause of the fire outbreak that engulfed parts of the Ifijirika Street section of the Main Market, Onitsha.

During an on-the-spot assessment visit to the scene on Monday, CP Orutugu revealed that the committee would be composed of representatives from the police, market leadership, and the state government. The committee will be led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Mr. Eziekiel Ibrahim.
According to the commissioner, the primary objective of the committee is to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and provide recommendations to prevent future occurrences.

While addressing traders at the market, CP Orutugu urged them to remain calm and continue with their normal business activities.
During his visit, the commissioner also monitored compliance with the Monday sit-at-home order in the commercial city. He assured traders that the police command under his leadership is fully committed to safeguarding lives and property in Anambra State.
Furthermore, he advised traders against allowing the sit-at-home trend to become a lasting custom in the market and the state at large.
