Proposes Acquisition of Modern Forensic Equipment to Enhance Investigations
Awka, Anambra State — The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD, has directed the immediate reorganization of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of strategic efforts to improve investigative efficiency and address emerging crime trends.

During a strategic meeting held today, March 29, 2025, with sectional heads of the CID, CP Orutugu announced the establishment of a Political Desk Unit within the department. This specialized unit will focus on monitoring political developments, conducting threat assessments, and implementing risk management strategies to ensure public safety during political campaigns and other sensitive events.

In a bid to modernize investigative techniques, CP Orutugu further proposed the acquisition of cutting-edge forensic equipment. This move aims to enhance evidence analysis, improve suspect profiling, and strengthen crime scene investigation procedures, aligning the Command’s practices with global standards.

The Commissioner emphasized that the CID Awka remains the Command’s apex investigative body, pivotal to maintaining law and order in the state. He underscored the importance of continuous engagement with CID leadership to address operational challenges and improve policing strategies.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and professional excellence, CP Orutugu assured residents of Anambra State that security agencies will remain vigilant in ensuring their safety.
