Awka, Anambra State – A land dispute in Awka has turned fatal as a 36-year-old man, popularly known as Achala from Umuzocha Village, was allegedly murdêred by Ifeanyi Nnaemeka, also known as Emma Ego Ise. The suspect, a native of Umubele Village in Awka, is currently on the run.

Eyewitnesses reported that the conflict began when Emma Ego Ise allegedly encroached on a parcel of land near the New Governor’s Lodge, behind the Secretariat in Awka. He had erected a fence beyond his allocated portion, prompting the rightful owners to challenge him with legal documents, including the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) and a survey plan.

Following the dispute, both parties agreed to a reconciliation meeting scheduled for 12 p.m. today. However, sources claim that Emma Ego Ise had other plans. Instead of attending the meeting to resolve the matter peacefully, he allegedly arrived at the location with a group of thugs. Reports indicate that he supervised the brutal kílling of Achala in what appeared to be a premeditated attack.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Awka community, with residents calling for justice. Local authorities have launched a manhunt for Emma Ego Ise, urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.
The Anambra State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, but sources say investigations are underway.
Residents are calling on the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice is served and to prevent further violence over land disputes in the region.
