A traffic light violation incident at the bustling Aroma Junction in Awka, Anambra State, has left a female pedestrian with a broken leg following a collision between two vehicles on Saturday.
The crash involved a Toyota Corolla driven by a clergyman, Hyacinth Azodo, and a Toyota Venza driven by a trader, Azubike Ezenwobi. Both drivers claimed to have had the green light to proceed when the collision occurred.

Azodo, who was coming from Ekwueme Square Road, insisted that the traffic signal permitted him to continue. Similarly, Ezenwobi, traveling on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, maintained that he also had a green light.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA), who were present at the scene, declined to comment on the incident.
An eyewitness, Mr. Collins, a driver with Star Sunny Motors, expressed concerns over the absence of surveillance systems at major intersections. “There is an urgent need for CCTV cameras at strategic places like this. Motorists often argue with traffic officials over violations, which causes confusion and accidents,” he said.

The accident has renewed calls for improved traffic management and surveillance infrastructure in Awka to ensure clearer traffic enforcement and pedestrian safety. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to determine the cause and address potential issues with the traffic light system at the junction.
